Panama, like the United States, is a diverse nation with a long history of immigration. Its advantageous geographic location is reflected in the popular saying Panama is the “bridge of the world, heart of the universe.”

Immigrants, both temporary and permanent, live alongside older Panamanian families and autonomous indigenous groups, creating a place that is multi-ethnic and multi-national.
